Conductivity and malleability for custom transformer applications

Applications: Low-voltage transformers, custom electrical devices, decorative applications

Engineering Specifications:

  • Material: Brass
  • Composition: Copper-zinc alloy (60–70% copper, 30–40% zinc)
  • Tensile Strength: 350–500 MPa (50,000–73,000 psi)
  • Yield Strength: 100–200 MPa (15,000–29,000 psi)
  • Conductivity: Excellent (28–30% IACS)
  • Corrosion Resistance: Moderate

Reasons to Choose:

  • High Electrical Conductivity: Better than phosphor bronze or stainless steel
  • Good Malleability: Easy to shape and customize

Reasons Not to Choose:

  • Limited Corrosion Resistance: Not suitable for highly corrosive environments
  • Lower Strength: Weaker than stainless steel and phosphor bronze
  • Not Suitable for High-Stress Applications: Prone to fatigue under vibration
