Stainless Steel (Grade 304)

Engineering Specifications:

  • Material: Stainless Steel 304
  • Standard: ASTM A240
  • Composition: 18% chromium, 8% nickel (Austenitic)
  • Tensile Strength: 505 MPa (73,200 psi)
  • Yield Strength: 215 MPa (31,200 psi)
  • Corrosion Resistance: Excellent in most environments
  • Temperature Resistance: Up to 870°C (1,600°F)

Reasons to Choose:

  • High Corrosion Resistance: Suitable for most industrial environments
  • Excellent Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Provides high mechanical strength
  • Non-Magnetic: Reduces electromagnetic interference
  • Good Temperature Resistance: Withstands high temperatures without losing strength

Reasons Not to Choose:

  • Lower Chloride Resistance: Prone to pitting in chloride environments (e.g., marine)
  • Poor Conductivity: Not ideal for applications requiring electrical performance

  • Tensile Strength: 515 MPa (74,700 psi)
  • Yield Strength: 240 MPa (34,800 psi)
  • Corrosion Resistance: Superior to 304, especially in chloride-rich environments
  • Temperature Resistance: Up to 870°C (1,600°F)

Reasons to Choose:

  • High Chloride Resistance: Excellent for marine and coastal environments
  • Superior Corrosion Resistance: Withstands harsh chemical exposures
  • High Strength and Durability: Suitable for heavy-duty applications

Reasons Not to Choose:

  • Higher Cost: More expensive than 304 stainless steel
  • Poor Electrical Conductivity: Not recommended for electrical applications
